"SURGICAL ERGONOMICS FOR THE NEUROTOLOGIST"
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are extremely prevalent in surgeons, with widely cited rates exceeding 70% across all surgical fields including otolaryngology. Within otolaryngology, otology/neurotology has some of the highest cited rates of neck, shoulder and back pain. Work-related MSD results in negative consequences for both personal health and professional/career longevity. This seminar will discuss ergonomic factors relevant to the neurotologist, including risk factors specific to otology/neurotology, impact of technology, and evidence-based techniques to prevent or mitigate work-related MSD. Panelists and moderators include individuals with published expertise on this topic in otology/neurotology, as well as those with unique expertise in ergonomics and otolaryngology as well as human factors research. Controversies in the Evaluation & Management of Otosclerosis This seminar is a provides a comprehensive discussion of all aspects of otosclerosis, from pathophysiology, presentation and diagnosis, historical evolution of surigcal procedures and current surgical techniques. The seminar has embedded video and audio narration and is designed to allow the participant the option to review the slides at their own pace.
